Building Pads on Blanco County Ground
The pad is the part of a build nobody photographs and the part that decides whether the slab cracks. Ours get stripped of topsoil, cut and filled to grade, compacted in lifts and shaped so water runs away from the structure rather than under it.
Around Johnson City the question is always depth to rock. Where limestone is close you get a subgrade that will hold anything, and your only cost is any grade that has to be cut through it. Where the soil is deeper you have easier digging and more compaction work to do. Test holes tell us which before we quote.
Building up rather than cutting down is often the cheaper answer here, and it drains better. We will price both if the site allows a choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you cut down or build up?
Depends on the site. On rock, building the pad up with imported material is often cheaper than cutting into stone, and it drains better. We price both where the ground allows a choice.
How do you keep water off the pad?
Shape it so the finished grade falls away from the structure on every side, and cut whatever swale or drainage the site needs to take that water somewhere.
Do you compact it properly?
Fill goes in lifts and each one gets compacted. Fill dumped and levelled without compaction settles, and that is what cracks slabs.
Can you do the pad and the driveway together?
Yes, and it costs less on one mobilization. The construction access route usually becomes the permanent drive.
