Ranch Road Work Around Liberty Hill
Liberty Hill country is cut by the South San Gabriel and the draws that feed it, which means most roads out here cross water somewhere. Those crossings are where the design effort goes. A road is only as good as its weakest crossing, and one undersized pipe will take out work you paid for everywhere else.
The ground varies by where you are on the place. Down in the bottoms there is soil depth, which digs easy and needs proper compaction. Up on the flats between the drainages it thins out fast over limestone, which gives you a solid base and costs you money if the grade has to come down through it.
A lot of the acreage here has been subdivided out of bigger ranches in the last decade, and the ground that is left is often the ground that was harder to get to. That is normal for us. Building access into an awkward piece is a good part of what we do, and it is usually the first thing that has to happen before anything else on the property can.
We ask what will be driving on it before deciding base depth. A road for a pickup and a road for a loaded trailer are not the same road.
Ranch Road and Driveway Services for Liberty Hill, TX Properties
Practical road and driveway solutions designed for ranches, farms, homes, commercial properties, and large acreage.
New Ranch Roads
A new road cut from scratch. Route walked first, base where the ground needs it, crown so water leaves the surface.
Road Repair and Resurfacing
Bringing an old road back. Reshape the crown, fix the drainage, add material where it has worn through.
Driveways and Entrances
The stretch you drive every day. Built to hold up under a truck and to keep the county road water out of your place.
Culverts and Low Water Crossings
Where a road meets water, the pipe or the crossing has to be sized for what actually comes through.
Cattle Guards
Installed flush with the road, set on a proper base, with approaches graded so they do not wash.
What Makes a Ranch Road Last
Almost every failed road we get called out to look at failed for one of three reasons, and none of them is the material on top.
No crown. A road graded flat holds water in the middle of it. That water soaks into the subgrade, the subgrade goes soft, and traffic pumps it into ruts. A road needs a hump down the centre so water runs off the surface within a few feet. It costs nothing extra to build and it is the single biggest thing that decides how long a road lasts.
Nowhere for the water to go. A crown only helps if there is a ditch to receive the water and somewhere for the ditch to drain. Ditches that dead end into a rise just move the problem twenty feet.
Base laid on soft ground. Hauling in material and spreading it over ground that was never stripped and compacted is money on the floor. It sinks in, gets contaminated with the mud underneath, and within a season you cannot tell it was ever there.
We build from the bottom. Strip the topsoil and organic material, shape and compact the subgrade, add base where the native ground will not carry the load, then crown and ditch. On some jobs the native material reshaped and compacted properly outperforms a cheap load of caliche dumped on top of nothing.
How We Price Roads and Driveways
Most road work is priced by the day. The rate covers machine, operator, fuel and mobilization. That is the honest way to price work where the ground has unknowns in it, and roads always do. Soft spots, buried rock and draws that turn out to need pipe are normal, not exceptional.
When the job is defined we will bid it fixed. A measured driveway run, a single culvert crossing, a cattle guard installation. If we can see the whole scope you can have a firm number up front.
The things that move a road price are hauled material and how far it comes, rock in the cut, the number of water crossings, and how far the equipment travels to reach you. Call and describe what you want and we will tell you which of those are going to matter.
Our Property Road Construction Process

On the Ground First
We come out and see it. Grade, soil, draws and how you plan to use the road all change how it gets built.

Decide Where Water Goes
Ditches, culverts and crown planned together. A road without a drainage plan is a ditch waiting to happen.

Build It From the Bottom
Subgrade shaped and compacted first, base added where it earns its keep, all placed in lifts.

Finish and Walk It
Crowned, ditched, approaches tied in, and gone over with you before we pull off.
Road Construction Designed Around Your Property
Every property has unique access needs, and dependable road construction creates practical travel routes that support long-term property functionality and growth.

Getting a truck and trailer to the back of the place

Hauling hay and feed without tearing up pasture

An entrance that does not wash out at the county road

Access the fire department can actually use

Crossings that hold when the creek runs

Roads that stay usable through a wet winter

Cattle guards instead of gates to open

Access ready for whatever you build next

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the first thing to fix on a rough ranch road?
Almost always drainage. Regrading a road that has no crown and no ditches just resets the clock. Get the water off it and away, and the surface holds for years.
Do you build access into undeveloped acreage?
Yes, and it is often the first job on a new place. Nothing else can happen until equipment can reach where you want it. We can clear the route as part of the same job.
Can you put in a cattle guard?
Yes. Set flush with the road surface on a proper base, with approaches built up and graded so they do not wash at the edges.
How do you decide between a culvert and a crossing?
How much water and how often. A draw that runs a few times a year usually takes pipe. Something that runs regularly or carries real volume is better as a rock crossing you can drive through.
Will you work around livestock?
Yes. Gates, cattle and fence lines are normal on the jobs we do. Tell us what needs to stay closed and we will work around it.
