Preparing Sites on Wimberley Slopes

Grading and spreading gravel for a new ranch driveway near Austin, TX

Building a pad on Wimberley ground means dealing with grade first. Cut into the high side, fill on the low side, and compact that fill in lifts so it does not settle out from under the corner of your slab. Unengineered fill on a slope is the most common reason a hillside build goes wrong.

Access is the other question and it comes before the dirt. Narrow drives and steep grades stop more jobs here than the ground does, and if we have to cut an access route that is part of the work.

Drainage on a slope also needs planning. Water coming down the hill has to be intercepted and routed around the structure, not allowed to arrive at the back wall.

Services Included in Our Site Preparation Solutions

Texas Grading provides a variety of site preparation services that help property owners create project-ready conditions. We work to improve site functionality and prepare land for future construction, development, and improvement plans.

House Pads

Cut, filled and compacted to a set size and elevation. Graded so nothing drains toward the structure.

Barn, Shop and Barndominium Pads

Larger pads for metal buildings, built with the same compaction and drainage as a house pad.

Grading to Plan

Working to staked elevations for a builder, or by eye for a barn. Whichever the job needs.

Leveling Uneven Ground

Cut the high, fill the low, compact the fill. Usable ground where there was a slope.

Getting the Water Right

Fall away from the structure on all sides, and somewhere for that water to actually go.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you build a pad on a steep lot?

Yes. Cut into the high side, fill the low side, compact in lifts. The retaining or benching that goes with it is part of the job.

It settles. Usually unevenly and usually after the slab is on it. Compaction in lifts is the step that prevents it and the one that gets skipped.

Intercept it above the structure and route it around. A pad on a slope without that is going to have water at the uphill wall.

That is the first thing we check. If the drive is too narrow or steep for a low boy, cutting access becomes part of the job and we price it up front.
